New York Governor Kathy Hochul and the city’s MTA announced the team that will redesign the station serving New Jersey Transit, Amtrac, the Long Island Railroad,  and soon the Metro-North Railroad. Following an open RfQ sent to 106 prequalified firms, which attracted five proposals, the selected team comprises a joint venture led by FXCollaborative Architects and WSP USA Inc., with London-based John McAslan + Partners serving as collaborating architect. The addition of the McAslan firm to the team was only logical, as their portfolio includes similar successful projects: King’s Cross Station (London), Sydney Metro’s Central Station, and Belfast Grand Central—all multi-modal transport hubs.

McAslan’s impressive work has been seen in several competitions covered in COMPETITIONS, including the Nairobi Al Jamea Campus competition in 2013. Our 2003 interview with John McAslan can be viewed here.
