Eligibility:
Any individual, corporation, or a consortium who meets any one of the following criteria is eligible to participate in the competition. It is highly recommended that participants develop their ideas in cooperation with others working in diverse fields.

The participant(s) should have qualifications, research or participation experience in spatial and contents presentation such as exhibition, landscape architecture, city planning, architecture, engineering, culture, the arts, film, sound, and history.

Outstanding (5): KRW 50,000,000 cash prize
Honorable mention (30): KRW 50,000,000 cash prize

9/10 November 2009 – Questions deadline
17 November 2009 – Answers to questions
17/18 Decemeber 2009 – Deadline for idea proposals
21/22 December 2009 – Examiniation of proposals
28 December 2009 – Announcement of winner

Jury:
The Jury will consist of experts from diverse fields selected through an internal process

Design Challenge:
This competition is designed to gather diverse ideas on designing programs and presentation environments that can be materialized within the Big-O, the core facility of the Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea, from Korean and international experts in the fields of culture, art, cinema, audio, history, landscape, architecture, urban development and civil engineering

Big-O is a strategic proposal to transform Yeosu New Port as a new hub for the marine industry that will create new added values in the 21st century. Yeosu New Port has so far served as a key port for the southern region of Korea.

We invite you to present creative ideas in connection with the main theme of Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea, “The Living Ocean and Coast,” to transform the Big-O into a specialized space to entertain and to emotionally move visitors, a complex cultural arena which citizens from around the world can enjoy together, and a facility that can be artistically and commercially renewed after the Expo.

Submissions Requirements:
The total project budget is 132.7 billion won; participants should propose ideas that are economically feasible.
