First prize – $1 million (contingent on the execution of property transfer agreement to the winning team)

Building and Site

The property to be redeveloped includes 11 acres, 882,000 square-foot hospital facility, and 760-car parking garage on historic Olmsted circle in Buffalo, NY. Site is near Downtown Buffalo, Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, Elmwood Village, Main Street light rail line, Olmsted Park. Building was created in eleven increments between 1911 and 1974.

Design/ Development Challenge

Owners are eager to transfer property to creative and capable development entity with a commitment to design excellence. Proposals should respect Olmsted legacy of Gates Circle, respond to clearly stated community values for use compatibility, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal. Proposals may incorporate whatever combination of adaptive reuse, historic preservation, and demolition the competitors deem marketable and buildable. Dual emphasis is on strength of program and design concept as well as developer capacity and track record.
