Two post-doctoral residencies at University of Montreal (2013 – 2014)

As a part of its Research Program funded by the Fonds Québécois de Recherche Société et Culture, the L.E.A.P. laboratory and the C.R.C. research chair issue a call for candidates to fill two post-doctoral residency positions, form 6 to 8 months (2013-2014). Selected candidates will receive a post-doctoral status granted by the University of Montréal, as well as privileged access to the L.E.A.P. database and an allowance of up to $25,000 each, depending on the duration and condition of the stay and the planned activities.
Since the Université of Montréal is a French speaking university in a mostly bilingual urban context, research can be done in French and/or English and must relate to the L.E.A.P. laboratory’s general mandate, as defined for 2012 – 2016: Theories and contemporary practices of the architectural project in the new challenges of the built environment.
Research activities should relate to one or more of the five following axes:
A – Contemporary cultural tensions of the architectural project:
Axis 1: Cultural tensions between preservation and innovation
Axis 2: Convergence and divergence of new ecological and digital cultures
B – Social, identity-related, and procedural constructions of architectural quality:
Axis 3: Monographic studies– the project as a body of work and a discipline
Axis 4: Constructive dimensions of new architectural and urban ecology
Axis 5: The design competition as a means of design, experimentation and qualitative judgement
The applicant must hold a doctoral degree valid since 2009 and must submit the following documents to the attention of L.E.A.P co-directors:

Deadline for applications is 3 June 2013. Applicants should submit:
1 – Curriculum vitae, including a list of publications and communications
2 – Transcript of doctoral studies (a French or English translation if applicable)
3 – Summary of the thesis along with the verification of completion of the thesis, or documents relating to the evaluation of the thesis
4 – Cover letter specifying the researcher’s desired period and conditions of residency as well as the commitment to joint publishing with one or more L.E.A.P. researchers
5 – Research and post-doctoral studies proposal (maximum 5 pages) compatible with the length of the stay and relating to one or more of the L.E.A.P.’s axes
6 – Names and coordinates of two researchers who can confirm the candidate’s scientific commitment and capacity to actively contribute to research within a multidisciplinary team, and contribute to the research and educational dynamic of the School of Architecture in general.
