Site

This is part of a $375 million plan to relocate the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, where the UB school will be in close proximity to UB’s other assets on the medical campus: a new Clinical and Translational Research Center and Educational Opportunity Center now under construction; the new UB Downtown Gateway (former M. Wile building); and the New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences.

Design Challenge

The architecture of the new buildings is to represent the university’s aspirations for the Downtown Campus as a world class Health Sciences Campus. Equally important, the building should provide state of the art educational, administrative and research spaces to foster academic excellence. The space program for the new School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences was written with the following priorities in mind:

• Create a “front door” to the School of Medicine and Biological Sciences

• Emphasis on student learning environment both formal and informal

• Emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration among departments

• Environment which supports high level funded research
