International Competition for Thematic Pavilion of the Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea

Type: Open/invited, single-stage international

Eligibility: open to any registered architect or a multi-disciplinary team led by a registered architect.
The competition promoter shall select certain architects and invite them to participate as competitors. The names of those competitors will be made public around the registration deadline and will be available on the official competition website.

1st Prize – 100,000,000 KRW (included in the design fee)
2nd Prize – 50,000,000 KRW
3rd Prize – 30,000,000 KRW
Honorable mentions (3 entries): 10,000,000 KRW

Design Challenge:
The Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea will be held from 12 May 2012 to 12 August 2012, under the theme of “The Living Ocean and Coast: Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities.” The ocean, the origin of life and breeding ground of living organisms of the Earth, is what we ought to preserve and treasure. Faced with threats such as social conflict, global warming, energy depletion and degradation of natural environment, we are on the threshold to seek practical solutions from the oceans. The theme of the Expo 2012 Yeosu will raise people’s awareness about the values of oceans and the critical environmental issues to suggest a new ocean vision for the future generation.

To host the most successful world Expo ever, the Organizing Committee of the Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea has organized the international competition to call innovative designs for the Thematic Pavilion from all around the world. The Thematic Pavilion of the Expo 2012 Yeosu, one of the major facilities of the Expo, will be the centerpiece of the Expo site and it will acclaim the organizing committee’s efforts in realizing the theme of the Expo.
