Design Challenge:
“Bold plans were announced for Punggol under the initiative of “”Remaking Our Heartlands”” in September 2007. Among which was the announcement of plans for a waterway to traverse through Punggol. To further enhance this new waterfront environment, HDB will be holding a 2-Stage Housing Competition for the masterplan and design of the future housing developments. At Stage-1, besides the architectural concepts, a unique feature of this design competition is that the professionals are required to prepare a local masterplan and urban design concepts, for the Housing District in the West. The top 5 entries will proceed to Stage 2 where they will develop and submit a detailed design proposal for the first housing parcel along the waterway.
The outcome of the 2-Stage Housing Competition will lead to the appointment of the winning consultants for the first public housing parcel fronting the waterway to be launched for sale in 2010. Through this competition, the winning design will also set the benchmark for the rest of the housing developments along the 4.2 km Waterway, which can yield an estimated 21,000 units of public and private housing.
