THE COMPETITION:
Gdansk of August 1980 became the cradle of Solidarity – the movement which led to the downfall of communism. Solidarity transformed the face of the world towards the end of the 20th century and laid the foundation of united contemporary Europe. Gdansk will mark the 30th anniversary of the events of August 1980 by erecting the European Solidarity Centre (ESC).
