Royal Adelaide Hospital Shortlist

Six shortlisted teams in the Royal Adelaide Hospital Site Open Ideas Design competition were announced. The competition resulted in 126 submissions from design teams around the world (representing more than 24 countries). The Jury noted the diverse range or submissions and commended all of the works for their innovative urban proposals.

The shortlisted designs, from Australia, Europe and South America, are as follows:

Slash (Victoria)

Zuzana & Nicholas (Queensland)

Oculus (New South Wales)

Nice Architects (Slovakia)

Ysalazam (Colombia)

Bondhag & De Rosa (Germany)

“After a rigorous review process, the Jury was unanimous in determining that the shortlisted submissions offered a range of engaging possibilities and options for the site, and is excited about seeing these ideas develop in Stage 2.” Shelley Penn, Jury Chair.

The designs can be seen online at www.odasa.sa.gov.au/rahsite. The Jury report is also available online. The six shortlisted teams will each be paid an honorarium of $100,000 to develop their proposals during Stage 2. During this final stage, the teams will be informed by the Jury feedback and ideas from the South Australian community and stakeholders. In addition, the teams will be required to work with a registered South Australian Architect or Landscape Architect to develop their ideas. The final submissions will include more detailed plans, renders, models and video animations. The final submissions will be assessed by the Jury in mid-November. Following this a People’s Choice Award campaign will launch giving the South Australian public the chance to vote for their favorite amongst the six final proposals. The professional prizes include $200,000 for first prize, $70,000 for second prize, $30,000 for third prize and $10,000 for the People’s Choice Award.
