Rotch Traveling Scholarship

Type: Open, two-stage

Eligibility:

must be U.S. citizens under 35 years old on January 1 of the competition year, and must have:

A professional degree (BArch/MArch) from an accredited U.S. school of architecture and one year of full-time professional experience in a Massachusetts architecture firm as of January 1 of the competition year.

— or —

A professional degree (BArch/MArch) from an accredited Massachusetts school of architecture and one year of full-time professional experience in any architecture firm as of January 1 of the competition year.

Timetable:

25 Jan 2013 – Applications due

1 Feb 2013 – Qualified applicants notified

8 Feb 2013 – Start of preliminary competition

11 Feb 2013 – Finish of preliminary competition

15 Feb 2013 – Finish of preliminary competition

1 March 2013 – Start of final competition

11 March 2013 – Finish of final competition

Rotch Award:

The Rotch Scholar must travel for a minimum of eight months, beginning within the calendar year of award receipt. The study topic and itinerary are at the winner’s discretion (subject to Rotch Committee approval).

The winner must keep a journal/blog documenting his or her travels in images, drawings and text. This record is used by the Scholar Mentor on the Rotch Committee and the Rotch secretary to approve payment distribution.
