DESIGN CHALLENGE:
The DJURe site comprises the Daejeon KTX station and the surrounding area of the old central urban district. It is currently cluttered with commercial, industrial and residential blocks. There are also densely-built old housing units and buildings that are aging or dilapidated. And these inferior living condition and urban setting cause a rapid urban decline. However, convenience and accessibility that derive from the transportation system such as the KTX, subway and East-west road have become a key strength which can provide an unique set of challenges and opportunities to improve urban environment.
Propose an idea for a master plan of DJURe for the revitalization of the old central urban district.
– Development plan in relation with the KTX ( Korea Train Express ) and the local subway station
– Urban skyline
– Pedestrian network
– Application of the TOD (Transit Oriented Development)
– Eco-network making use of the Daedong creek
– Landmark that identifies the local character
The purpose of this competition is to invite excellent planning ideas that fit into the social and cultural context of the site. Through this international ideas competition, the promoters expect the Daejeon Urban Renaissance area to become a strategic place promoting the regional development.
